Hello ! Hello! I am here to share my experience getting a freelance job from Upwork. First of all please do register asap even though you are not interested to do any job as yet …. Please register. 

There’s a reason why. In order for you to apply for a job, you require points or it’s called connects in Upwork. The points depend on how many points the hiring company require. 

So how do we get this points/connects. Upwork gives you 10 for free every month. If you are short of points, you can purchase it from Upwork. USD1.50 for every 10 points. I didn’t purchase as I made use of the points credited to my account by Upwork. This is the reason it will be best you register and collect points.

Sample, for the job below you are required to use 23 connects. As you can see too, mine is 24 connects available. I will not apply for this unless I really really want it! There are so many of other jobs, so skip! :) 

Not all companies require that many of connects. I came across with 7 connects. So it varies.

How did I screen through which one to apply? Since I have registered and filled up my experiences and also the type of work I am interested in, Upwork will provide the 'best matches' - check the list here first. 

Then I make sure the ad says 

• Payment method verified. Basically they confirmed how are they going to pay. 
• How many jobs they have posted. That means they are serious and have hired before
• Rating is 4 stars and above. This based on the feedback from the worker
• How much they have spent. That means they have also paid to the worker
• Member since ... Just to make sure how long have been in Upwork

Lastly I check on how many proposals that they have gotten. If it's more than 50, it is very unlikely that I will be selected since I have no experience.

I also search for "Malay" in the search column to look for jobs because it's specifically meant for Malaysia market type of work. The work I am doing right now. The company is based in London. The HR manager is in India and I work with the team in India.

How did I finally manage to get a job after so many attempts? Allah first yeah! So He had helped me. Second I think I was being honest in my application. I mentioned that if you are to hire me, this will be my first freelance job. Mentioned that I am single mother and not working. Third may be because of my CV - you know how many years of experience I have! So Alhamdulillah!
